Thought Experiment: Cyborgs in Chess
If I implant a computer chip in my head, am I eligible for chess tournaments?
Consider a scenario: I am a long jumper who suffered a car accident and now have a small metal piece in my knee. Most people would allow me to compete. However, it would likely be prohibited if both my legs were replaced with pogo sticks.
The term "cyborg" refers to the integration of a nonhuman element into a human, creating a hybrid of human and non-human capabilities. By this definition, wouldn't anyone wearing glasses be considered a cyborg?
Hence, the question arises: where should we establish the boundary of social acceptance for cyborgs in competitions involving human strength, such as sports? While replacing bones with metal components seems acceptable, how far can we push the limits?
